Rapunzel comes to the Neeld

Rapunzel comes to the Neeld

Family Theatre in Chippenham

Krazy Kat Theatre are bringing the well know story Rapunzel to us next month but they will be putting their own twist on the story. This will be an accessible and family friendly relaxed performance with music, puppet figures and singing as well as fully integrated sign language. It will feature Krazy Kat’s renowned high production values.

We asked the theatre company what audiences can expect from this family theatre in Chippenham:

When did Krazy Kat Theatre begin?

It all began 34 years ago in Scotland when Kinny Gardner B.E.M. and the late Alastair S Macmillan established The Krazy Kat Theatre Company in 1982, as a fully professional touring company, creating innovative and imaginative visual theatre.
A passion for communication, inclusion and accessibility have always been the driving forces behind Krazy Kat’s work and it didn’t take long before they started integrating Sign Language in to the shows.

Who are Krazy Kat Theatre?

We are a team of hearing and deaf people;  actors, directors, designers and choreographers, all led by Krazy Kat’s Artistic Director Kinny Gardner B.E.M.
Kinny Gardner is a recognised leader in the development of visual theatre with integrated signing. We are seen by both the Deaf and Hearing communities as major innovators in the field of Sign Language Arts.
We create witty, quirky, beautiful and dynamic theatre experiences for children and their families, featuring creative and original use of Sign Language. This highly visual aspect of our work is our strength, allowing us to actively engage with audiences with disabilities and where English is not a first language. The kids in the audience, whether hearing or deaf, get the same laughs because it’s not about the language, it’s about the visual.
We tour our shows all over the UK to arts centres, theatres and mainstream, deaf and special schools. This is important so everyone gets the opportunity to see a piece of theatre, which is child centered, made for them and involving them.

Why did you choose Rapunzel?rapunzel-and-teddy

Because it is such a well-loved story and it is our favourite story too! After our shows, when children come up to the stage to meet us and the puppets, they have in the past asked about Rapunzel and when they’re going to get to see this story. So we decided to tell this wonderful story in our own Krazy Kat style, with beautiful puppets, music, much silliness and lots of laughs and with Sign Language of course so everyone can understand it!rapunzel-prince

What is Krazy Kats favourite story?

There are so many but it has to be Rapunzel! But in our show the witch is more funny than scary and the prince is quite silly! We hope that many children will come to the theatre and enjoy the story with us.

Rapunzel and her Witch will be at the Neeld on Monday 12 December.
