Art Exhibition in Chippenham at the Neeld
Summer Art Exhibition in Chippenham by Chippenham & District Arts Group
Our art exhibition in Chippenham this summer is coming soon. Each year the Royal Academy in London stages its famous summer exhibition and now we’re having our own here in our Neeld foyer. Works by members of the Chippenham and District Artists group will be on display in the customer services foyer later this month. If you spot something that catches your eye, the work is available to buy.
Do come in and have a look at the great work on display, entrance is through the Town Hall customer services via the High Street. We spoke with Prue Backway who is Chairman of the group to find out more.
How did Chippenham and District Artists group come about?
Chippenham & District Artists was formed about 17 years ago to offer support to artists in the locality, to assist them develop and improve their skills and meet people of similar interests. Young and old are welcome, the group is open to all whether a beginner or an expert and they can receive help and encouragement from other members.
What sort of work does the group produce?
Individual artists work in different mediums such as watercolour, pastel, oil, as well as pen & ink, collage and mixed media. We get together once a month on a Tuesday evening to paint together using a theme, still life or photographs in varying media and many excellent examples are produced.
We have had workshops and are planning more in the future. The latest held in The Cause on ‘Drawing from Life’ was very popular.
Where do you exhibit your work?
The Group has 2 exhibitions a year and over the last few years has decided that Chippenham will be the main place to show and sell our work. The most recent Winter and Summer Exhibitions have been in Chippenham at the Yelde Hall and the Jubilee Rooms (Chippenham Borough Lands).
We are delighted to be using the foyer of the Neeld Community & Arts Centre for our Summer Show. This is the first time the group have used this space and we will be showing and selling over 90 paintings using many different media plus there will be unframed pictures and cards for sale. The space is very central, light and airy and ideal for a local exhibition of this type. We are running in parallel with events in ChippFest.
Do you have a favourite artist/artwork?
The group has had talks and demonstrations from popular local artists and illustrated shows about famous artists such as the Impressionists. Members have their own particular favourites which they are keen to discuss and analyse. Some modern art is not as popular! The work of our President Bob Rudd who is an esteemed local artist is much admired (www.bobrudd.com )
